Upcoming EADGENE Events
XII QTL-MAS Workshop 2008
15-16 May 2008, Uppsala, Sweden
EADGENE will be one of the sponsors for the XII QTL-MAS Workshop 2008. The focus of the meeting will be on: fine mapping, genome-wide association analysis and genomic selection. They plan to release a common data set in January where the participants have the possibility to perform fine mapping, an association analysis or a genomic selection analysis. The data will consist of several phenotypes, a complex pedigree, and a dense marker map. For further information please click here.

Previous EADGENE Events
EADGENE Ethical Matrix Workshops
Various venues and dates
These one-day workshops explored ethical issues raised by the interplay of animal genomics, animal disease and food safety. For further information please click here.
EADGENE Workshop followed by miRNAs in Health & Disease 2
3-4th March 2008, Liège University, Belgium
This EADGENE sponsored workshop was divided into 2 sessions. A morning session to introduce miRNAs in general with 3 different courses: miRNA biology (Bryan Cullen from Duke University) ; wet-lab methods for the detection of miRNA and the analysis of their mode of action (Zissimos Mourelatos from the University of Pennsylvania); bioinformatic analysis of miRNAs and their targets (speaker to be determined). An afternoon session was dedicated to oral presentations about miRNAs in livestock research.

EADGENE-SABRE Days 2007 “Genomics for Animal Health”
4-8 June 2007, Utrecht, NL
The EU-funded projects SABRE (Cutting Edge Genomics for Sustainable Animal Breeding) and EADGENE (European Animal Disease Genomics Network of Excellence) held their joint meeting on “Genomics for Animal Health” from 4th - 8th June 2007 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. This 5-day event focussed on the latest genetics and genomics research in the field of farm animal health, through a joint 2-day conference which was preceeded and followed by a series of satellite workshops and meetings.

From Infection to Inference Workshop
4-5 June 2007, Utrecht, NL
This workshop was held satellite to the “Genomics for Animal Health” conference. This Workshop aimed to facilitate the dialogue between disease experts and specialists in data analysis in order to learn each others’ terminology, and to identify common ground, as well as caveats. This workshop focussed on three contrasting disease categories: mastitis, gut health (e.g. E. coli or salmonella infections) and nematodes. For further information please click here.
E. coli and Salmonella Workshop
7 June 2007, Utrecht, NL
 |
The topics of this workshop were enterohaemorrhagic strains of Escherichia coli (EHEC) and Salmonella enterica, which are animal and human pathogens with zoonotic potential. The title of the workshop was: “Postgenomics in enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica”, in other words: “how does the acquired knowledge on the genomics of bacterial pathogens help us in the understanding of the development, of the treatment and of the prevention of the diseases?”

Bovine Annotation Jamboree
Hinxton, 23-25 May 2007
With the advent of the new genome assembly for cow, annotation of this sequence is the next step in making it useful for researchers in industry and academia. It is well known that lack of annotation is a major limiting factor in interpretation of microarray and other experiments. At present, input from biological experts is needed to manually check the automated annotation of this genome. A jamboree was organised in Hinxton (UK) to bring experts together and guide them through the annotation process of their genes of interest. On the first day, we explained how the software works, and the other two days we focussed on performing the actual annotation and checks.

2nd Mastitis Working Group workshop
1st - 2nd March 2007, Roslin Institute, Edinburgh, UK
 |
|
The EADGENE Mastitis Working Group has been highlighted by reviewers as an example of NoE performance. At this meeting the latest data was presented and there was discussion of how other EADGENE work packages might contribute to the further exploration of the original transcriptome profiling data generated by the mastitis experiments.
